Know These Names: CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalists Announced
Now in its 10th year, the award gives promising young labels the chance to win mentoring from industry heavyweights plus some pretty serious cash money – $300,000 for the winner, and $100,000 for two runners-up. Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Rodarte and Joseph Altuzarra have all taken out the top prize in the past, so if you’re not familiar with this year’s nominees, that should change shortly.
And it’s lucky we’re having a menswear moment. Tim Coppens, Todd Snyder, Dao-Yi Chao and Maxwell Osborne of Public School, and Shimon and Ariel Ovadia of Ovadia & Sons all got a nod this year. Last month the Public School boys picked up the prestigious CFDA Swarovski Menswear Award for their darkly directional garb, making them particularly strong candidates.
Waving the flag for lady clothes are Misha Nonoo of Nonoo, Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard of Veronica Beard, Juan Carlos Obando and expat Aussies Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin of NYC-based Tome, while Marc Alray of Marc Alray Jewelry and Commodore Jason Jones of Parabellum could bring it home for accessories.
The winner will be announced in New York in November. In the lead-up, each designer will create a one-of-a-kind piece for Uniqlo and stage a runway show at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.
