Charlene Wittstock Marries Prince Albert In Custom Chanel Pantsuit
The Royal Wedding of the year this was not. Prince Albert of Monaco and longtime girlfriend Charlene Wittstock became man and wife in a low-key civil ceremony today.
Grace Kelly’s son and his Olympic bride exchanged vows in the palace’s Throne Room. All 7,618 citizens of Monaco were invited to the principality’s square, where the marriage aired on jumbotrons and post-ceremony cocktails were provided.
The new princess, who is famous for her one shouldered gowns and pantsuits, went for a conservative look in a light blue suit made exclusively for her by Chanel. While we love the color, we were hoping for a bit more from Wittstock. As for the suit’s bottom half, we aren’t fans. The pants (yes, those are pants) are billowy and and a little strange. Still, the princess managed to be the picture of elegance wearing her blonde hair tied back in a bun and simple pearl studs.
We’re relieved that the couple made it official since the weeks leading up to the marriage have been filled with rumors that Albert had fathered a (third) illegitimate child and that Wittstock had called off the wedding.
The civil ceremony is just one of the wedding festivities, which kicked off yesterday with an Eagles concert and will finish up tomorrow with a religious ceremony at the palace and a gala dinner with a star-studded invite list. So while we wait to see what the new Princess wears in tomorrow’s ceremony, check out the photos from today’s I do’s.
