PHOTOS: Christie’s Green Bash Pulled Out All The Stops
Last night we attended the Christie’s Green Auction and Vogue Runway to Green fashion show, and it was fancy. So fancy! The well-heeled crowd swilled champagne, bid upwards of $100,000 on items like the “Chanel couture experience”, watched Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha stomp down the runway, and got their groove on to Nicki Minaj. Fancy!
The fanciest part of it all was that the event raised over $1.2 million for
Oceana, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Conservation International and the Central Park Conservancy. That’s why its tagline is “Bid to Save the Earth”, after all! Wish you were there? Well, you should. Because it was awesome. Follow us on the slideshow journey below, and it will almost be like you too were caught with a mouth full of canapés by Michael Kors (yes, this happened to us).
If you're going to go to an event like this, you have to dress the part. That is why we wore
Rodarte ( for Target, duh) last night. Anna Wintour wore the same dress she donned at the Michael Kors 30th anniversary party in Paris earlier this month, Rachel Roy chose a divine trenchcoat that we peeped when we had lunch with her in February, and Olivia Palermo clashed in a way that we unabashedly loved.
When we got inside, we saw not one but two hot young designer/cool best friend duos.
Jason Wu and date Diane Kruger were attached at the hip, as were Alexander Wang and Zoe Kravitz. We chatted with Jason, who told us he was excited that his label has grown into a global brand since Michelle Obama famously wore one of his designs on inauguration night. He also told us he thinks Diane is the most stylish woman on the planet, as she stood next to him in a Jason Wu dress that had us green (get it??) with envy.
Then the auction began!
SNL's Seth Meyers played emcee, and made quite a few natural disaster jokes in his opening monologue — jokes that elicited some "too soon" groans from the audience. He was joined by a hysterical auctioneer lady from Christie's for the actual bidding portion, as people bid tens of thousands of dollars on sick items like an Alain Ducasse European culinary tour and a drool-worthy Oscar package.
4.The runway show!
After the rapid-fire auction,
Vogue's Runway to Green fashion show went down. The roster was beyond impressive — Karolina, Coco, Constance Jablonski, Jessica Stam, Arizona Muse, Jourdan Dunn. In a clever twist on the standard couture show trope, Lindsey Wixson closed the show in a gorgeous bridal creation. We also totally spotted Coco's doting husband James Conran casually hanging out in the Net-a-Porter cocktail area before the show began.
5.The musical performance!
But that wasn't all! Surprise musical guest
Nicki Minaj brought the house down in Alexander Wang, making her entrance to " Monster". At this point, Alex was bopping in his seat, while Zoe stood up and danced among the seated crowd. Zoe then tried to coax Michael Kors to stand up and dance with her. Michael laughed and politely declined. And...scene.
By the way, the
online auction is still open until April 7th! Not to mention all of the looks from the runway show are available on Net-a-Porter, with 10% of the proceeds benefiting Runway to Green. This really is the event that keeps on giving.
