Christopher Kane Pulls His Name Out Of The Running For The Dior Job

Who’s taking over Dior? An easier question to answer would be, who isn’t? Today, another one of the young, talented names who had been bandied about as a contender for the job not only pulled his name out of the running — he said he’d never even been considered in the first place.

British design darling Christopher Kane told Vogue UK that although his name had been suggested for the role by none other than fashion journalist Suzy Menkes, he’s not moving to Dior any time soon.

“While it is incredibly flattering that I could be considered for a role at a house such as Dior at this stage in my career, I can confirm that I have not been approached,” Kane said. “I am focused on developing my own label and my ongoing collaboration with Donatella Versace for Versus.”

Kane is about the umpteenth designer to pull his name out of the running. Since Azzedine Alaia told The Financial Times last June he wouldn’t take the job, other designers like Marc Jacobs and Riccardo Tisci have said they wouldn’t either. Other names, like Haider Ackermann and, more recently, Raf Simons, have been brushed away by press speculation.

So. Take another name off the list. And keep on speculating.
