Does This North Carolina Church Think Babyonce Is The Devil Incarnate?

Of all the crazy stories we’ve read and reported about Beyonce and Jay-Z‘s daughter Blue Ivy Carter, this one takes the cake. Someone hoodlum scared the Internet into thinking a church in North Carolina amended its street sign to say that Blue’s birth opened the portal of Hades.

TMZ reported the story yesterday, claiming the sign was changed to say “Beyonce Had Her Baby. Satan Is On Earth.” The church’s Reverend Curtis Barbery attributed the change to simple vandalism, and said that neither he nor his congregation thinks Blue Ivy’s birth will bring about the end of days.

Barbery has since spoken to The Fayetteville Observer, which reports that the picture TMZ saw must have been a fake. Apparently the sign is locked up around the clock has said “Jesus is the reason for the season” since Thanksgiving. Barbery claims to have been misquoted (or at least misunderstood) by TMZ – he didn’t know that the sign had been changed when TMZ called him, and when he actually got in front of the sign it hadn’t been changed. Barbery thinks someone Photoshopped all the Satanic stuff onto his otherwise loving sign and posted it online before he knew what happened.

“Listen, Satan was here a long time before her baby was born,” Barbery said. “We would never imply that anybody’s baby was Satan. We’re not in that kind of business, condemning people.”

Sounds like a joke gone wrong to us. We wonder if Barbery would like to condemn whoever made the fake sign in the first place?

    WOW, that’s insane.

  • Stk

Check this preacher out. His stories don’t match up. Each interview and newspaper article conflict. “It was vadelism and I took it down” then “it was never there”. “Only one man has a key and he hasn’t been back since Thanksgiving” then “I told them to change the sign Wednesday night”. HOW can someone, including himself, change the sign if the only man who has the key hasn’t been back? You know as well as I do that there is not only ONE key. If it were lost HOW would one ever use the sign? There IS a spare key, I’m sure. PLUS, has anyone besides me notice that only ONE side of that sign has been shown? There IS two sides to that sign and I can bet you that the other side is blank!  You know, the side that doesn’t have “Jesus is the reason for the season”. Look friends, I pass this church often and there is some ackward stuff on it, and more than not, both sides do NOT say the same thing. Not to mention, I DID read “Beyonce had her baby” on it in passing but can’t say any more. I didn’t read it all before we passed it..
