Why Claudia Schiffer Said ‘No’ To Having An Hermès Bag Named After Her
While there’s a lot to be said for living without regrets, there are some things a girl just can’t get over. Like, for instance, turning down the opportunity to have Hemès name a handbag after you. Just ask Claudia Schiffer.
For the Spring/Summer 2013 issue of Elle Collections, the glossy asked a group of supermodels (and we mean that in the truest sense of the word) what they would tell their 17-year-old selves if they had the opportunity. Amber Valletta would travel back to the Nineties to advise herself to “Relax and truly enjoy the adventure ahead of you,” while Naomi Campbell would say “Always trust your instincts.”
Schiffer, however, would give her teenage self a less nebulous piece of instruction: “In five years time Hermès will ask if they can name a bag after you, as they have Kelly and Birkin. Ignore your agent and say ‘Yes’.”
To think: the “Schiffer” could have joined the ranks of the “Kelly” and the “Birkin”. And, if the super’s enduring ability to land campaigns and covers even into her 40s is any indication, we would have had another instant classic on our hands. And in our closets if we were really lucky. Sigh.
