Chrissy Teigen Admits Love For Fried Butter At Coach’s Carnival
I’ve never been to a carnival, but I have to been to a fair, so I expected the usual sloppily dressed crowd, rigged games, and fried food at Tuesday night’s Coach “carnival” on the Highline. I should have known it would be fancy.
Tickets for entry to the event and games went toward maintaining the Highline’s outdoor space. There were people like Chrissy Teigen, Anna Kendrick, and Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra of Costello Tagliapietra, mini corn dogs (which I tried for the first time ever), perfectly fried funnel cakes, and photo shoots with Coach accessories.
I was wading through the crowd along the Highline when I literally bumped into the C.T. duo. “This is the only time I don’t mind crowds!” laughed Costello. He wasn’t joking: we kept touching elbows as Tagliapietra told me about his favorite carnival game, which he couldn’t name.
“That little water gun one, where you keep the water gun on the target and inflate the balloon.” Ohh, that one! “I was pretty successful. They were each $1, so I would go through 20 games as a kid trying to win some ridiculous $2 gift. I always won.”
A few steps away, I spotted Kendrick on the line for Whack-A-Mole. She was really in the mood for her favorite, Skee-Ball, but said, “Eh, Whack-a-Mole’s pretty good too.” Thankfully, there weren’t any half-broken rides. ”There used to be carnivals every summer in my hometown [of Portland], but they were pop-up carnivals,” she explains. “And it was kind of extra scary because you felt like the rides might actually fall on you. Those were my earliest carnival memories, I was probably like 7. I didn’t think that it was actually dangerous, I just thought it was extra scary and rickety.”
When I finally stopped by the bar to grab a drink, I found the gorgeous Teigen nearby. I love Teigen’s food blog, so naturally, I had to ask about her thoughts on carnival cuisine. “Food at carnivals are actually my favorite type of food!” she exclaimed. But she’s a model, so isn’t she not supposed to eat that? Apparently not. “Oh my gosh, I know they have fried chicken on a stick here! I love fair food, like deep fried butter and deep fried Oreos. I love that shit.”
I ate a salad for dinner.
