WATCH: Coco Rocha Is Still Supporting Haiti, Even If It’s Not ‘Current’
Last night, model Coco Rocha and her husband James Conran did something that people in fashion don’t often do: They supported a charitable cause that hasn’t made major headlines in months and debuted a short film called Letters to Haiti.

Conran shot the film on a trip that he and Rocha took to the island with Behati Prinsloo and Cedrick Roche, co-founder of the charity Lakay Pam, which supports Haitian children in need. The film, screened last night at Milk Studios, tracked the group as they traveled through Port-au-Prince and beyond, visiting kids in schools and orphanages and delivering letters of support and encouragement from kids all over the world.
“It’s always had something to do with kids,” Rocha told us of her charitable verve. “I think that it’s because kids are so vulnerable. An adult can try to do as much as he can to take care of himself, but a kid just assumes you’re going to take care of them.”
And that’s what you see in the film — Rocha and Prinsloo taking pictures of kids playing soccer or going to class, giving them little tokens of comfort that they didn’t have, taking care of them in a way that might not be vital, but is still necessary.
Prinsloo’s pictures from the trip were sold in a silent auction (she told us that someday, she’d love to do “documentary style and life and landscape” photography, as she’s really interested in being behind the camera), and Rocha encouraged everyone from designers Zac Posen and Rebecca Minkoff to models Karlie Kloss and Hilary Rhoda to donate to Lakay Pam.
“Fashion, I find, loves to be current — even when it’s a cause, it’s very current. But when something else happens, they totally forget about that,” she said. “We’re hoping it does something, we’re hoping it makes everyone aware once again.”
