The Hunt For The Genius Behind @CondeElevator Has Begun

UPDATE: The @CondeElevator account has been shut down, but we’re still curious to know who started it in the first place! If you have any ideas, leave them in the comments, or send a message to tips@styleite.com.

Just four days after a very brave soul started tweeting out snippets of conversations overheard in the Conde Nast elevator, a dogged search for the social media maverick behind the @CondeElevator account has begun. They started with a tweet about food, yesterday they quoted Anna Wintour, and today they have more than 36,000 followers. No wonder people are, well, wondering.

Gawker poked around the first 15 people the account followed on Twitter to see if that led anywhere. Gatecrasher spoke to a source who swears the culprit is a Teen Vogue intern. And we have our own idea of who the media savvy maven might be. But all that is nothing compared to the shakedown Conde corporate is working on.

According to ABC News — yes, this Twitter account made ABC News — they’re on the hunt.

“We have no idea if this is real or made up and don’t know who is behind it but it certainly suggests that many people care a great deal about what happens at Conde Nast,” a Conde Nast spokeswoman said in an statement to ABCNews.com today.

Asked whether an effort is under way to uncover who is behind the Twitter account and if the company will allow the account to remain active, the spokeswoman said, “We are still looking into it, so I don’t know what will or won’t happen.”

Business Insider thinks the anonymous tweeter is definitely close to being unmasked, but here’s hoping they’re wrong! This is all far too entertaining for it to all be over so soon.

Any info or deets on the account? Send us a tip! It’s totally anonymous. Or just leave your best guess in the comments.
