Conde Nast Big Wigs Serve Fashion’s Favorite Food At Holiday Party
For the first time in three years, editors and executives at everyone’s favorite luxury magazine publisher Conde Nast felt confident enough in their bottom lines that they all went to the Four Seasons for a holiday party! And they served industry gossip and corporate intrigue right alongside fashion’s favorite food, chicken pot pie.
Yes, chicken pot pie, that most fashionable of one-dish meals. If you’ll recall, The New York Times declared back in March that the humble meat-and-vegetable pie was “a dish that’s always in fashion,” and considering that most of Conde Nast’s 14 books concern themselves with fashion, that must be the case.
Now for the real meat: The New York Post reports that although only six of the company’s magazines saw ad-page gains this year, the company overall ended the year in the black, and 10 percent of its overall revenue comes from its websites and other online operations.
But while some of those magazines are sitting pretty, others may see a shakeup in the coming weeks. After nearly three months on the job, the company is said to be looking for another position for recently installed Glamour publisher Jason Wagenheim. Glamour, overseen by publisher Bill Wackermann, has been one of the magazine’s biggest cash cows in recent months, though everyone from AdWeek to Women’s Wear Daily has speculated that Wackermann may not have given Wagenheim as much control as was necessary to do the job. (Previously, Wagenheim had been publisher of Entertainment Weekly and an associate publisher at Vanity Fair.)
Believe it or not, other than that everyone at Conde Nast seems to be getting along. Wintour told the Post just before she walked out of the Four Seasons that the lunch “was great for everyone,” and Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter said this lunch was “the best ever.”
That chicken pot pie must have been good.
