Condé Nast Expands Its Restaurant (Yes, Restaurant) Empire

Condé Nast needs to chill it with the brand ~~dilution~~ extension. Last year the publishing giant opened up a Vogue Cafe, GQ Bar, and Tatler Club in Moscow, and now they’re expanding further.

The Condé Nast Restaurants division will open up a Vogue Cafe in Kiev and a GQ Bar in Istanbul next year. Um, isn’t this totally weird? Our thoughts on the Condé Nast fashion school apply here: SO CHEESY. But Condé sure doesn’t think so! Condé Nast International chairman Jonathan Newhouse told Women’s Wear Daily: “Vogue and GQ stand for the best in taste, discernment and pleasurable living. Nothing could be more natural than to expand these brands into restaurants where our readers and digital users can experience these brands in a new and exciting form.”

Yeah, they’re poised to make a whole lot of money off this venture, especially given their desire to open up more restaurants around the globe including in parts “Condé Nast doesn’t yet publish magazines”. Google even tells us that the Moscow properties have become quite popular! But still, this is all terribly, terribly cheesy. Let’s put it this way: would Anna eat at the Vogue Cafe? Nope.
