Inside Courtney Love’s Townhouse: Does She Deserve Eviction?
Fashion-and-music lady Courtney Love is fighting back against her landlady, who is trying to evict her from her West Village townhouse for failing to pay rent and “redecorating” the place without getting permission first.
Love told Page Six that she and her lawyers will fight back against the claims Donna Lyon made in the press earlier this week, accusing Love of not paying two month’s worth of her $27,000 rent and painting the interior without asking her first. To hear Love tell it, she’s done absolutely nothing wrong — and her lawyers say Lyon is just using Love’s fame to get a good price when she tries to resell it.
“I haven’t fallen behind on the rent — I have been paying month to month as agreed,” Love said. “My rent is current, but the owner is now asking for the remaining two months’ upfront. Even though it’s not required, I’d happily pay that and another six months’ rent upfront if she would extend the lease for six months. I have repainted, but I asked permission, and used a painter approved by the owner.”
Love’s lawyers say they can prove the unpaid rent claim is false, but Lyon’s lawyers say that Love is still in the wrong for altering the home’s interior. They plan to sue her for damages if she doesn’t “restore the property to its original condition by the end of the lease on Feb. 14.” Ouch.
We posted pictures of what the house looked like before Love’s renovation yesterday. Take a look at the original decor on the left and Love’s upgrade on the right, below.
