British Designer Creates Dress From Thousands Of Cow Nipples
We’ve got pretty tough stomachs here at Styleite, but there’s one thing we’ve seen today kinda makes us want to vomit. Specifically? The dress British designer Rachel Freire made of over 3,000 cow nipples and plans to show at Paris Fashion Week.
The dress, which resembles nothing so much as an overwrought bra and bustle covered in pinkish beige florettes, is decorated with nipples that Freire collected from the scrap heaps at various British tanneries. It is intricately made and impressively detailed. It also sort of mades us vomit just a touch in our mouths the first time we saw it.
You see, there are a few people who are already outraged that this garment is in existence because it takes the way animals are treated in the pursuit of their skin, fur and meat to an even deeper level of denigration. We just find it supremely gross. Like, seriously. We would sooner lick the handrails on the last car of the 6 train than get within arm’s length of this garment, because the fact that it is made from nipples (NIPPLES) gives us the heeby-jeebies.
Already animal rights activists have denounced the dress as “sickening and repulsive,” and they’re right. It’s a nasty effing dress. We’re at least going to give Freire some credit for trying to turn scraps into something, but at the end of the day, this is essentially a leather dress. And if PETA and the like were proportionally outraged about other garments made of leather, then we’d understand their morality-based outrage about this dress.
Friere, whose new collection is appropriately called Nippleocalypse, told The Daily Mail she’s just trying to stir the pot.
“To be called a fashion designer is odd. I am an artist in wolf’s clothing … What I am doing is recycling. The people criticising are clearly clueless about the amount of leather wasted on a daily basis.”
Yeah. We think she’s an attention-seeker who might be a little clueless as to what qualifies as art. Take a look at her, um, creation, below.
