Daisy Lowe On How She Feels Compared To Straight Size Models

Despite her It Girl status, model, DJ, and sometimes actress Daisy Lowe wasn’t always confident about her body. Known for her risqué cover shoots as much as her innovative style, Low admits that accepting her curvier shape wasn’t always easy.

She’s spoken before about her voluptuous figure (here, here, and here), and in this month’s InStyle UK, she says it’s been a constant struggle:

“It’s taken me seven years to get to the point where I can be comfortable with not being as thin as the rest of them. The public can say, ‘It’s really cool that you’re not conforming to this anorexic ideal’, but then I still have to go and stand next to all of the other girls. I’m not saying that I am big, but when you stand next to a beanpole, you’re going to look like a massive tree trunk. Literally, it’s only in the past six months that I’ve come to terms with it. Before then… it was hard. I used to have private meltdowns all the time.”

Honestly, this is incredibly refreshing to hear. And while we’d love for her to have never felt badly about her size, it’s humanizing to know that someone who gets photographed by Juergen Teller, is a muse to Marc Jacobs, and has her own clothing line can have the same moments of insecurity as the rest of us. Do you agree?

A great reminder that it’s how we feel about ourselves that really matters – cuz I look at her as “the beanpole” ( I have one thigh that eclipses the girl!)

that’s bull crap and i don’t want to hear it. if she has no fat spilling out from that cropped shirt thing she is wearing, then SHE IS A BEAN POLE. NOTHING makes her “curvy” except for the fact that she has BOOBS. Oh, so she’s thin and has boobs. her cross to bear i guess….bitch. this makes me realllllly not like her.

I think that’s exactly the way to look at it! It’s not that Daisy Lowe is “big” — however you define that — it’s that comparing yourself to others is never going to end well.

I feel that she IS curvy. Daisy Lowe has a healthy “curvy” body and I love her for it. No one is saying fat means you have to be 5 stones overweight to qualify for it.
