What Does Derek Lam Think Of Kate Middleton’s Sartorial Choices?
We already loved Derek Lam‘s designs, but after reading this we think we just may be kindred spirits.
In a recent interview with Grazia, Lam really opened up. He had some adorable things to say about his mom, which kind of melted our hearts:
I actually have to say whenever I see my mother wear my clothes it make me feel so happy. She’s close to 70 and still loves fashion. I’m always so pleasantly surprised when I see that she is happy enough with the work that I do to wear it.
He also talked about what working fashion has taught him, and about how important it is not to limit yourself:
Never say never! Things that you might think ‘No way, I’ll never do that, that would never work’ you suddenly find yourself getting excited about. It’s all about keeping the eyes fresh and not confining yourself and playing with the rules and twisting them.
Sound advice! But then he moved on to the subject of everyone’s favorite royal, HRH The Duchess Of Cambridge. Many fashion people have already voiced their (very complementary) opinions on Kate Middleton’s wardrobe, and now it’s Lam’s turn to chime in about her style. He had this to say about Duchess Catherine:
I think she’s done such an amazing job. She doesn’t have a professional choosing her wardrobe which I think is such a rarity. She does tailoring really well and everybody can take away from how she has made style choices which are both suitable to her position and her body shape. I do love her the most when she is in that ethereal mode in a chiffon or Grecian style dress. I’d love to put her in something like that.
Agreed. On all accounts. All hail Princess Kate! Think we’ll be seeing her in that Derek Lam Grecian dress anytime soon?
