PHOTOS: Designers Imagine Katniss’s Fiery Hunger Games Costume
We don’t know about you, but we’re supremely excited about the upcoming debut of The Hunger Games movie — and we’re even more excited about the costumes. And so are the people at InStyle magazine, who asked designers like Nicole Miller and Christian Siriano to imagine their own versions of one of the protagonist’s most memorable costumes.
If you’re not familiar with the story, then we won’t spoil it for you, but we will say that the plot has a lot of opportunities for great fashion moments. One of those moments involves a costume for the protagonist Katniss (who will be played by actress Jennifer Lawrence) that literally lights on fire. InStyle asked a few well-known designers to interpret the book’s description of the costume, which reads like this:
“I am dressed in what will either be the most sensational or the deadliest costume in the opening ceremonies. I’m in a simple black unitard that covers me from ankle to neck. Shiny leather boots lace up to my knees. But it’s the fluttering cape made of streams of orange, yellow, and red and the matching headpiece that define this costume. Cinna plans to light them on fire just before our chariot rolls into the streets.”
Cinna, the story’s genius stylist, will be played by Lenny Kravitz. Are you excited yet? If not, take a look at a few of the costumes below, and tell us which you think would look best in the movie. You can check out the trailer here, and there’s a sampling of the designer sketches below.
