WATCH: DvF Finally Weighs In On John Galliano Scandal

Last week, we wondered why Diane von Furstenberg — one of fashion’s most famous Jews and the daughter of a Holocaust survivor — hadn’t offered a public statement on John Galliano‘s anti-Semitic remarks, particularly when so many in the industry have spoken out in defense of the designer. Yesterday, von Furstenberg shared her thoughts on the scandal with Gayle King. Here’s what the designer had to say.

Von Furstenberg told King, “As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, I find what he said was absolutely unacceptable. Having said that, I think he was provoked and he was clearly not in a normal state.” And when asked whether Dior was right to fire Galliano, she said, “That is not for me to say. I mean, it is an unacceptable comment.”

I love Diane! I think her opinion is similar to most designers’. What he said was unacceptable, but he was drunk and seemed provoked.

As usual, Ms. von Furstenberg oozes class and thoughtfulness with every word she phrases. She won’t speculate and just comments on her reaction to the facts. I wish there were a million more of DvF in seats of power in this world.

Good answer, Diane. Short and sweet.
