Did Carine Roitfeld Drop The Ball On Paris FNO?
How badly did Carine Roitfeld bungle the Paris edition of Fashion’s Night Out? According to the New York Post, really badly. Apparently Roitfeld missed the memo that Fashion’s Night Out was supposed to be about the consumers and the shopping, not about the VIPs.
(We’ll be honest, we’re pretty sure New York’s version missed that memo as well, what with lines snaking around blocks and traffic at a standstill. But it was still fun! In that New Year’s Eve, street party, never-meets-expectations sort of way.)
Moving on. According to one-half of a “stylish couple” hoping to “spend big euros” that night, they were turned away from every boutique and “told they needed to be on the list or a VIP to enter.”
It’s worth noting that Paris’ FNO was held on a much smaller scale than New York’s and limited to shops along Avenue Montaigne.
Anna Wintour doesn’t do much to dissuade the idea of Paris’ VIP version, telling The Post, “Each Vogue editor has personalized Fashion’s Night Out for her city.”
That said, Wintour also claims the feedback from Paris was all positive. Which means either the Post‘s spend-ready couple are telling a tall tale — or Parisians likes their Fashion’s Night Out to be just like every other fashion-related event: exclusive.
