PHOTO: Dita Von Teese Wears First Dress Made By 3D Printing

Last night in New York City, burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese showed off the first-ever 3D printed dress. Its new-to-us designer Michael Schmidt has created looks for Cher and Lady Gaga, so we’re pretty sure this isn’t his first sci-fi-inspired go round.

The dress is a mash-up of Teese’s old school glamour and Schmidt’s idea of futurism, and while it may not be entirely wearable, it’s certainly cool to look at. With the help of architect Francis Bitonti, Schmidt used digital rendering technology to design the dress and then collaborated with Shapeways, a 3D printing company, to create the dress with a fabric-like substance called powdered nylon. The final product was painted black and covered with 12,000 black Swarovski crystals. Whew!

We can’t decide what’s more amazing: that this technology has been developed, or how Dita looks in it. Take a look and see for yourself:

Dita Von Teese is the only lady and the only public female who looks like a classic film star. Every strand on her head is in place and everything matches. Bravo Von Teese. The rest of the female personalities need to take a look at you before they go out to special events.
