Dolce & Gabbana Announces It Will Shut Down D&G
All good things must come to an end, and for Dolce & Gabbana, the smaller, younger D&G brand is just one of those things.
Women’s Wear Daily reports the Italian fashion house announced that today’s D&G show, presented in Milan, will be its last. The ancillary brand, which was fleshed out with jewelry, underwear and eyewear components, will be folded into the main Dolce & Gabbana collection. The D&G pieces were younger, sportier and more irreverent than their ultra sleek and sexy cousins in the main line, so there’s an opportunity there for a little bit of new blood to be injected, so to speak.
In a statement, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said the move would allow them to give “even more strength and energy to our collections.” And that’s certainly true. In addition to designing, both men are heavily involved with both all areas of the business. This move means they’re either trying to avoid going the way of John Galliano or they’re preparing for another really big task. Are they about to go public? Open more stores? Outfit yet another sports team for the next 20 years? Only time will tell.
