Doutzen Kroes: ‘I’m Not One Of Those Skinny Girls’
Doutzen Kroes may have a confusing name, but with an AP profile on her career in the bag, she’s officially made herself — and her body — a household name. Described as “a jeans-and-T-shirt girl… who likes — and eats — bread,” Kroes and her curves are wonderfully reminiscent of the 90s era supers. Think: Christy, Cindy, or Naomi.
Kroes, for her part, admits it’s not easy for her to stay as slim as the industry would like — unlike, say, fellow Angels like Gisele Bundchen and Alessandra Ambrosio who give birth and get back their six-packs the next day.
“I have to work really hard. My body — I have a voluptuous body. I am not one of those skinny girls. I like to enjoy life,” she says.
…Still, in the lead up to the big Victoria’s Secret runway show she’ll temporarily give up the bread, cheese and chocolate that she loves.
“I am a totally healthy girl that eats but eats in moderation and I take care of myself.”
It’s always refreshing (and comforting!) to hear that the life of a model isn’t all genetics, but it’s worth noting that when Kroes is an outlier, there’s still plenty of room for improvement. At least she’s working on it.
Kroes is outspoken about her feminine, curvy figure and how it’s cost her jobs. She was a panelist for the CFDA’s round-table discussion about too-skinny models and says she hasn’t done as much runway work as she’d like because she doesn’t always fit the sample size.
