PHOTOS: Unretouched Victoria’s Secret Images Of Doutzen Kroes Surface

Doutzen Kroes is, as Janis Ian might say, a regulation hottie. But that doesn’t stop Victoria’s Secret from doing some heavy Photoshop work on her swimwear photos before they make their way to the retailer’s website and catalog.

Fashion Spot user Lovemusic22 posted the images below on the forum yesterday, credited (per the website’s rules) to Victoria’s Secret. The shots, as a fellow user pointed out, aren’t up on the VS website, however, and while still drop-dead gorgeous, bear some marked differences to those the company uses on its website. This led Jezebel‘s Jenna Sauers to do some investigative work (ie, look at the bikini pics realllly closely) to pick out what, exactly, gets the retouching treatment between raw material and the ad-ready image.

As you can see, wrinkles between her eyebrows, scars on her right leg, folds in her skin, and unshaven armpits are all present and accounted for, unlike in the super-smooth photos posted by the retailer online. Some of the Photoshop adjustments are justifiable — seeing the nude underwear a model wears beneath the sample swimsuit is, after all, simply unnecessary. Others, however, seem outright bizarre, such as smoothing out Kroes’ killer abs.

The brand has been known to flub it with the Photoshop in the past — witness Candice Swanepoel‘s poorly-sculpted shoulder or this model’s carved-out thighs. These pictures just show what little work even needs to be done in the first place. Oddly, other VS shots posted by the same user (and there are many) seem to bear the usual signs of retouching — poreless skin, smooth lines, nary a stray hair in sight — despite being similarly absent from the retailer’s website, but these are definitely the raw snaps, as we’ll no doubt see when the tweaked versions officially land online.

Check out some of the photos from the set below and tell us what you think about VS’s Photoshop practices (or, you know, just ogle Doutzen in all her natural glory).

What is the point – that they still look amazing?  In a way this kicks away the crutch other women have that they only look good because of airbrushing.

Why do they photoshop out her ‘killer abs’? Because it’s not about her body – she’s a clothes hanger for the swimsuit they’re trying to sell, so you need to be able to imagine yourself (or at least a genetically anomolous version) in it, not to identify with her. On a secondary level, I imagine there’s also a little aspect that men generally prefer women with ‘soft’ curves – not hard angles. I have yet to meet a man who thinks Kelly Ripa’s ripped abs and toned arms are sexy – they think she looks like a teenage boy.

It looks like she has two cutting scars on her right leg D:
But yeah, I don’t like excessive photoshopping.

You know I actually really like the scars on her leg, they add interest and they’re unexpected one someone that models for a living. Makes me think she actually would go surfing or something. I don’t know if she does, but it does make her more relatable.
