PHOTOS: Supermodels Reunite For New Duran Duran Music Video!
Last month, we heard reports that Naomi Campbell was rounding up all her supermodel friends for an early ’90s inspired music video shoot. Allegedly the brainchild of Yasmin Le Bon, wife of Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon, the group apparently reunited in Cannes during the festival to talk details — and now, courtesy of Stefano Gabbana (who else?), we’ve got photo evidence that it’s most definitely happening.
Yesterday, Gabbana posted a series of photos to his Tumblr (some of which we’ve included in a gallery below) of him with supermodels Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, and, of course, Yasmin Le Bon. Sadly, just as we finished pulling the images, they magically disappeared which, honestly, only solidified our suspicions. (Remember the last time Gabbana was forced to take down some pictures?) Anyway, we weren’t the only ones to put two and two together. Fashionista, Grazia, and Fashionologie all did some web research and here’s what we’ve found out.
Gabbana’s photo captions make no mention of Duran Duran or a music video — he only references Harper’s Bazaar UK a few times, which is presumably because the mag is shooting an accompanying editorial. Duran Duran confirmed the video shoot on their Facebook page, writing: “So next Monday and Tuesday (June 6/7) Duran Duran will be filming a vid for “Girl Panic!”, directed by none other than Jonas Akerlund…and to confirm, super models flying in to appear in the video…Stay Tuned!” On Monday, they wrote: “more from [band member] JT: “Don’t get too excited, but we’re on the set with Cindy C, Helena, Yasmin, Eva and … Naomi is in the Presidential Suite”
JT, of course, is short for John Taylor, who also tweeted this photo, which confirms that the video is for their single, “Girl Panic” and is most definitely directed by Akerlund. Harper’s Bazaar’s Lucy Yeomans also exchanged no shortage of tweets with JT and Simon Le Bon, which lends credence to the idea that Gabbana’s pics are of a partner editorial for the video.
The final and most exciting tidbit is that the video will premiere later this year, but not before “serialized” viral clips of it are released on the web. Genius. If Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci” is the fashion anthem of the summer, then “Girl Panic” will most definitely be the fashion video of the fall.
Update: As of posting, Grazia’s post regarding the video has already been taken down.
