Earth Day Inspires Us To Find The Raciest Recycling Job Ever
By the way, in case you missed it — today is Earth Day. Now don’t get us wrong, we’re all for saving the planet one Rachel Zoe-approved plastic water bottle at a time, but by the 65th round up of “Go-Green Goods,” we can’t blame you for clicking next.
Eco-chic product placement aside, if there was ever an industry that could teach us a thing or two about reusing and recycling it would be fashion. Designers, photographers and stylists are constantly mining the archives for inspiration, re-interpreting old trends and basically taking the old and putting a fresh (for the most part) spin on it.
Of course, that’s not going to stop the polar ice caps from melting but as much as we like our stuff, sometimes it’s the thought that counts. So with that in mind, feast your eyes on the best recycling we’ve seen in a while: “La DécaDanse.” Taken for May issue of French Vogue, the super-steamy editorial is actually an up-cycled update of a classic series of shots by Francis Giacobetti featuring singer Serge Gainsbourg and model cum icon Jane Birkin.
For this go round, Carine Roitfeld tapped photographer Mario Testino to capture Daria Werbowy and Francesco Vezzoli as a Serge stand-in as the sexed up Parisians engaging in various S&M acts — hair pulling, spanking, neck biting etc. So in honor of Earth Day we mined the archives to dig up the original, lusty snaps (along with their modern copycats) — because hey, who needs Birkenstocks when you can have Birkin?
