Effie Trinket Wears Alexander McQueen In Her Hunger Games Portrait
The second installation of The Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire, doesn’t open in theaters until November, but to hype it up, Capitol Couture has returned with several portrait shots of Katniss Everdeen, Effie Trinket, and more.
The Capitol Couture Tumblr blog started last year, and was a marketing scheme drummed up by the team at Lionsgate — and it worked. Lionsgate is doing the same for Catching Fire, and the first promo shots of Katniss and Effie’s Capitol portraits are here.
The sharp eyes at the Daily Telegraph suspect that Katniss’ frothy gown is custom Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, while Trinket’s ensemble is definitely a McQueen look from the fall 2012 collection — a coral chiffon and organza confection complete with heel-less booties. Too bad Effie didn’t wear the futuristic shades, that would’ve been perfection.

Update: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Katniss’ tulled creation is actually made by Indonesian designer Tex Saverio, and spoiler alert! — the gown is for her wedding! Costume designer Trish Summerville revealed: “The metal pieces rising up are meant to signify fire and flames, while layers of laser-cut feathers at the waist and shoulder tie in the film’s ‘Mockingjay’ concept.”
