WATCH: Ellen Addresses Anti-Gay Group Asking JC Penney To Fire Her

JC Penney has been taking some major flak from conservative family values group One Million Moms for naming talk-show host (and noted lesbian) Ellen DeGeneres as its new spokesperson. The retail chain hasn’t backed down, and today, DeGeneres will use the monologue portion of her show to say that she’s not backing down, either.

DeGeneres normally reserves her show for fun pranks with famous soccer players or push-up competitions with first ladies, but her statement to One Million Moms is a good deal more serious. The group has been calling for JC Penney to let DeGeneres go since last week. This week, on the heels of California repealing Proposition 8 (which banned marriage between two people of the same sex) DeGeneres couldn’t help but speak up. “I try not to pay attention to my haters,” she said, “but this time I’d like to talk about it, because my haters are my motivators.”

So she quoted the haters directly, reading a portion of a Facebook status update on the official One Million Moms page (which, DeGeneres noted, only has about 40,000 likes). The statement says that Ellen “is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store. The majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there.”

Naturally, there are a lot of comments on the post that say just the opposite (one says, “Love Ellen and everything she stands for. I’m going to shop there more now!”), and DeGeneres reads a few to her cheering audience.

“I usually don’t talk about stuff like this on my show, but I really want to thank everyone who is supporting me,” DeGeneres says. “Here are the values I stand for. I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you’d want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values. That’s what I stand for.”

Good for Ellen! I’m not gay, but I support everyone’s choice to live the life they want to live AS LONG AS IT HARMS NO ONE. Ellen is not harming anyone by being the spokesperson for JCP. She is not forcing her lifestyle on anyone. If you want to believe in some imaginary deity and have false promise after false promise spoon fed to you every Sunday, so be it: Just don’t try to cram it down others’ throats. Just because the spokesperson for JCP is gay does not imply that everyone is gay who shops there no more than a black spokesperson implies that only blacks shop at another place.

Kudos to Ellen, & to JC Penny for standing up to an organization made up of freaks. One million moms professes to be loving christians, when in fact, they act the opposite.
I’m suprised they don’t wear KKK outfits, their thinking is on the same level.

Ellen has made her choices in her own life and others have a right to make their choices for what they believe in. Many mothers do not want a homosexual choice for their children..and the gay society has been pushing WAAAAAAAAY too much to get RECOGNITON for their choice in life.
