Most people say summer ends around Labor Day, but as far as we’re concerned, summer stops with the Emmy awards. Why? With this year’s scheduling, it’s the last chance our favorite TV stars get to wear amazing clothes before they bundle up and head to New York for fashion week.
So in honor of this momentous awards show — and in anticipation of the live coverage we’ll be doing tonight — we decided to take a look back to last year’s Emmy red carpet arrivals the to see what hits (or misses) this year’s nominees made a year ago.

1. Rose Byrne in Valentino
The Damages star made a strong case for glamour in this dress, but if it hadn't been for the rhinestones, she would have faded right into it.
2. Tina Fey in Gucci
Simple, classic, Grecian. And boring, to be honest. We've never seen Gucci look so demure.
3. Toni Colette in Monique Lhullier
Frilly, bubbly layers of toile normally isn't our thing, but Colette did it right by skipping out on other accessories. The dress was enough of a statement on its own, and she looked great in it.
4. January Jones in Versace
The intricate design on the bodice of this dress turned heads and delighted style watchers the world over. But it's a tough act to follow, so we'll be keeping a keen eye out for what Jones wears tonight.
5. Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Vera Wang
Who ever thought Elaine Benes could look so chic? Our only complaint is that while everyone else's train seemed full of verve, Julia's looked a little lifeless.
6. Mariska Hargitay in Carolina Herrera
It's not a bad dress and it's not bad looking on Hargitay. But it doesn't stand up to the glamour the event calls for.
7. Amy Poehler in Reem Acra
We distinctly remember clapping in our living room when we saw this one. So glamorous and chic, and so unexpected.
8. Christina Hendricks in L'Wren Scottt
This dress is the perfect in-between for Hendricks. From the waist up, she looks a little like her character on Mad Men , but the lace train and the fabric make this dress a perfect red carpet choice.
9. Glenn Close in Zac Posen
This dress is interesting and age-appropriate, perfect for Glenn Close. But what's with the sunglasses?
