Erin Kaplan Heads To Teen Vogue, Reality TV Rumors Abound
In an email sent out earlier this today, Kaplan announced her departure. “After 5 ½ incredible years, tomorrow will be my final day at ELLE,” she wrote. “On Tuesday, January 18th I will be starting at Teen Vogue.” Kaplan’s new title will be Sr. Director of Public Relations and Fashionista reports that she will be replacing Eleanor Bianco. Now, let’s get down to brass tacks. Besides the fact that ELLE may soon have a new publisher in Hearst, back in April, Teen Vogue editor Amy Astley hinted that the mag was working on a new TV show. Naturally, Kaplan’s work ethic and experience make her an attractive candidate for any magazine, but her MTV on-air credentials could be just what a television-focused publication ordered.
And now, one more piece of evidence. Remember that R.J. Cutler produced fashion docu-drama that was announced last week? We were given a full copy of the application form — the final and fifty-seventh (yes, 57) question of which reads: Do you know anyone at Teen Vogue? If so, who?
There’s two ways to take this tidbit. First, that Cutler’s show and Teen Vogue’s show are one and the same. This doesn’t seem particularly likely, as the rest of the casting notice for Cutler’s production made it seem like they were looking for a standalone group of fashionably-oriented friends — not necessarily people all working at the same publication. The second reading is that Cutler knows of Teen Vogue’s show and wants to feel out any potential overlap ahead of time.
We reached out to Kaplan but she declined to comment on the rumors. What do you think of the move?
