PHOTOS: Who Was Best Dressed At The ESPY Awards?

We did a double-take at each look on last night’s ESPY Awards red carpet. We’re used to seeing female athletes in uniforms, so it was a lovely surprise to finally see the ladies all gussied up. Awesome dresses! Pretty hair! Fake tans! Some missed the mark, while others transformed into glamazons.

Maria Sharapova hands-down gets our pick for best dressed in a dusty blue J. Mendel gown. The hue was unexpectedly cool, her hair was swept into an updo to show off the neckline, and she showed off the perfect amount of skin to be sexy, but not vulgar. Jessica Biel also looked super cute in a short Christian Dior frock. She jazzed up the LWD with cool pumps that had a neon heel, but she could have used a cool belt or something to break up the dress a bit. And props to soccer star Brandi Chastain for wearing shorts! The style really isn’t red carpet-appropriate, but Chastain rules, so we’ll let it slide.

Zooey Deschanel, Hayden Panetierre, Jamie Anderson, and Jenn Brown all tried to literally out-shine each other. Deschanel paired a sequinned Oscar de la Renta dress with a bright red belt, and accessorized with a metallic clutch and shoes, and a black headband. Panetierre’s mesh Giorgio Armani dress with all-over beading was really pretty! The simple cut fit her petite figure well, and the low-key accessories, hair, and makeup didn’t compete with the dress.

And can we discuss Willa Ford’s floor-length bandage dress? We didn’t even know bandage dresses came in a longer style! That just makes it worse.
