WATCH: Christian Louboutin Bulldozes Fake Shoes
Nobody hates a fake more than cobbler extrodinaire Christian Louboutin. His famous red soles are so ubiquitous in Hollywood that it’s almost unreasonable to expect that copycats wouldn’t try to cash in the hot commodity.
But even if you paint a red sole on high heel, we can tell the difference. We know the arch of his heels like the back of our hands. That leather-covered platform, that perfect shade of red — no one does it like you do, Mr. Louboutin.
Even though we can spot a fake, others may not be able to. Instead of ignoring the issue or accepting it as something that will inevitably happen in the industry, Louboutin is speaking out — and speaking out loudly — against the selling of counterfeit items by launching www.stopfakelouboutin.com. And we’re loving it.
To help shoppers stay informed, the site provides you with a list of websites that continue to sell fake Louboutins, some of which friends I know first hand have fallen victim to using.
Our favorite part of the site? The video on the homepage featuring piles of fake Louboutins getting run over by a garbage truck. If that’s not art, I don’t know what is. We give it less than a week before it goes viral.
“We have adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ policy and have put in place a comprehensive program to deal not only with the sites offering fake Christian Louboutin products, but the sources thereof, the distribution systems, the auction sites and other avenues of trade in the fake products,” the site declares.
Styleite has a zero tolerance policy regarding fakes as well. We know Louboutins can run you up a pretty penny, but if a $600 stacked heel is not in your budget, pass on it and find something more fiscally appropriate. Loutoubin’s new site reminds us that if it seems too good to be true (aka: $99 Loubs) it usually is.
So please, for the sake of the industry, for the sake of the Shoe Gods that look down upon us and guide designers to create next season’s mules, stop buying fakes. Go on Louboutin’s site and get informed.
