Fashion Goes To Washington

On Friday, the fashion industry got some serious recognition up on Capitol Hill: Washington’s Committee on House Administration approved the formation of the industry’s first caucus.

According to WWD:

The caucus will be chaired by Reps. Diane E. Watson (D., Calif.), Jerrold Nadler (D., N.Y.) and Carolyn B. Maloney (D., N.Y.), lawmakers from the two states representing the largest apparel manufacturing and design centers in the country.

Carolyn B. Maloney, co-chair of the caucus told WWD:

“The fashion industry is a crucial component of New York City’s and the nation’s economic base. It’s important that it has a voice in the halls of Congress, and long past due that we create this caucus.”

More details will be revealed on Monday, but for now, we applaud America for recognizing the important role fashion plays both aesthetically and economically, and raise our very fashionable flags up high.
