Fashion Celebs Share Absurd & Adorable Holiday Plans
The holidays are here and hopefully you’re either already home or en route to celebrate with your family and friends. But if you’re looking for some yuletide inspiration, WWD caught up with fashion’s biggest names to ask them what their plans where, what their wish lists looked like, and what they plan on wearing. Unsurprisingly, the results ran the gamut from the absurd to the kind, to the downright hilarious. Our favorites — made up of Prabal Gurung, Georgina Chapman, Ben Taverniti, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld — coming up!
Hands down, the most absurd response goes to Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, whose apparently entirely unironic answers read like a Zoolander parody.
Gifts you’re giving: “Petrossian caviar and Champagne.”
Gifts you’re hopefully getting: “A Range Rover for driving to our country house in Connecticut.”
Holiday travel plans: “St. Barths with family to unwind and relax.”
Favorite festive outfit: “A caftan and a bikini.”
The most hilarious award goes to Hudson denim designer Ben Taverniti, who takes Chapman’s cue and runs with it.
Gifts you’re giving: “I am a newlywed, so whatever my wife wants.”
Gifts you’re hopefully getting: “A Lamborghini Murciélago with a flat black paint job from Roadstarr Motorsports in Los Angeles and a full Batman suit to match.”
Holiday travel plans: “I am staying in the presidential suite at the ‘Going Nowhere’ hotel, where I hope to be secluded from all forms of communication and no other civilization in sight other than my wife and dogs.”
Favorite festive outfit: “Snuggie — America’s favorite blanket with sleeves.”
Annual traditions: “No work, family, sushi in bed, movie marathons.”
Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung has the most charmingly inspirational answers — though they also had the assuredly unintentional effect of making us feel a little bad about our own clothing-centric holiday wish lists.
Gifts you’re giving: “Love.”
Gifts you’re hopefully getting: “More love.”
Holiday travel plans: “I’ll Skype with my family in Nepal, and I am likely going to Tortola with my friend Maggie.”
Annual traditions: “I go to my cousin’s restaurant, Thakali Kitchen — best Nepalese restaurant in the city.”
Favorite festive outfit: “A smile.”
And finally, the fashion figure whose holiday celebration we’d most like to crash is Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. Vodka? Check. Deep fried dumplings? Check. Gorgeously minimalist apartment in Paris’ chicest arrondissement? Check!
Gifts you’re giving: “I am actually done with all my Christmas shopping, but I always keep it as a surprise until Christmas Eve, so I don’t want to spoil the surprise. Sorry!”
Gifts you’re hopefully getting: “Something for the home is always one of my favorites. Right now I start to want to collect art or photo prints. Anything I can keep forever.”
Holiday travel plans: “My family and I always spend Christmas Eve at home in Paris. Then I usually leave the day after, usually somewhere warm, usually Tulum in Mexico. This year, I will go away at the end of January to avoid the crowd and have the beach just for me and my boyfriend.”
Annual traditions: “The Christmas Eve drink before dinner and gift opening with my family. We always have vodka and piroshkis to embrace my mother’s Russian origins.”
Christmas Eve outfit: “I am not sure yet. I love to play dress-up in the comfort of my own home. I think I will be wearing this new Givenchy black lace dress I haven’t worn yet.”
