A Look At Glastonbury’s Fashionable Past: Lady Gaga, Kate Moss & Mud
Tomorrow marks the first day of the 37th annual Glastonbury Festival of Performing Arts, also known as the largest music festival in Europe. Since it is way over there in the E.U., and long since sold out, we’re going to assume you don’t get to go. But don’t just sit there and shop for frayed denim shorts and so many frilly vests to pretend you’re soaking up the G-bury action. Join us on a mud-drenched walk through festivals past (sorry, you’re Scrooge in this metaphor).
The festival was started by a dairy farmer back in 1970, and this year will feature such renowned acts as The Rolling Stones, Cat Power, Smashing Pumpkins, and Portishead, alongside relative industry newborns like Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, and even Madonna-pal and ingenue Rita Ora, plus bushels more. You’re getting into the grumpy spirit now, aren’t you?
Rather than ruminating on all the amazing live music you’ll be missing this weekend in favor of an accidental sunburn from the farmer’s market and some light retail therapy (well, that’s what our weekend looks like), turn that frown upside down with pics from the G-fest going back to nearly a decade ago. Remember a lady named Gaga? She was there! And so was Kate Moss!
See what we mean in the gallery below, and keep your chin up. There’s always next year.
