TIME WARP: ‘Saucy’ Performers In Fabulous Old School Costumes
Vintage pictures are the best, aren’t they? Today’s throwback comes to us courtesy of the New York Times. Back in the day (that is, the teens, ’20s, and ’30s) the Times ran a weekly supplement featuring “saucy publicity shots of female performers.” And the photos are amazing.
Of course, we’re most fascinated by the wardrobe choices — most of which were costumes from the women’s upcoming shows. It’s funny how old school styling and black and white film can make even the cheesiest of pictures seem glamourous. Not surprisingly, some of the photos were deemed too scandalous for the paper, and have spent nearly a century collecting dust in filing cabinets.
