PHOTOS: ‘Final Fantasy’ Inspires Fashion Spread

Fashion editors find inspiration in the strangest places — in barns, in supermarkets, in Terry Richardson’s studio. But sometimes, a fun-filled RPG (that’s role-player game, for those of you who didn’t know) can be exactly the kind of spark needed to get a concept for an amazing group of photos.

Especially if it’s an RPG from the Final Fantasy franchise, the international multimedia sensation centered around a series of videogames in which the characters wear costumes that are more strangely couture than functional or utilitarian — making those costumes perfect for France’s Dedicated magazine to emulate in their most recent fashion story. It’s called — what else? — Final Fantasy.

The photos aren’t exact copies of what the games’ characters would wear — we’d be looking at costumes instead of clothes you could actually wear if they were. But the stylists and photographers at Dedicated did such a good job that there’s nothing lost in the translation from video game fiction to on-page fashion. You can see the rest of the photos from the shoot here.
