Florence Welch To Go On Tour With Gucci
Florence and the Machine frontlady Florence Welch will be wearing a lot of Gucci clothing on her upcoming North American tour. The storied Italian fashion house said in a press release this morning that its creative director Frida Giannini created the wardrobe that Welch will wear everywhere from Atlanta to St. Louis this summer. But Gucci says that doesn’t mean she’s the company’s new face.
It was widely reported earlier this week that Giannini, who’s said before that her stunning fall/winter collection was inspired by Welch’s “eccentric style and her willingness to dare,” had tapped Welch for an upcoming ad campaign. While we’re sure the luxury brand would be glad to have her, Gucci confirmed that Welch will not be starring in any of the brand’s advertising this fall or in the forseeable future.
Still, that doesn’t make Welch any less inspiring — or any less lucky — to get to work so closely with Giannini. In a press release (which mentions nothing about an ad campaign), Welch gushed thusly:
“I was extremely flattered when I heard that Frida’s collection had been inspired in part by my performances and I was completely bowled over by her collection, the dresses seemed perfect for my shows, the colours, the shapes, the movement in the fabric. So it seemed natural that we work together on creating some pieces for my upcoming US tour. I’m very grateful to Frida, it’s been a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to get dressed for the stage!”
We can’t wait to see her, either, but in the meantime, check out this sketch of Welch in one of Giannini’s designs.
