Is Anna Wintour Conspiring To Keep Ann Romney In Ugly Clothes?
It’s no secret that President Obama has quite a few vocal fans in the fashion industry. Marc Jacobs and Rachel Roy have designed t-shirts showing their support, Tavi Gevinson and crew made a lip sync video urging women to get out and vote Democrat, Beyoncé wore “Obama” hoop earrings out on the town, and at Fashion’s Night Out we heard Diane von Furstenberg shout to her packed store “Everyone here better be a Democrat!”
But his most vocal fan of all is arguably Anna Wintour, even if her actions for the party — hosting dinners, calling on favors from famous friends, and helping raise serious fundraising dollars — do tend to speak louder than her words. An article on Fox News posits that one such action may be in wielding her considerable influence in the industry to discourage designers from dressing the wife of Obama’s competitor: Republican Ann Romney. They cite a lack of publicity on the part of Oscar de la Renta following Romney’s very high-profile outings in the designer’s wares as of late — first to the Republican National Convention and more recently to both the second and third Presidential Debates:
Designers, stylists and fashion industry publicists routinely clamor to outfit First Lady Michelle Obama, with press releases flying out the door any time she sports a certain brand. Fashion publications praise her designer selections and several books have been published that are solely devoted to analyzing her style and taste. However, the fashion world has remained particularly quiet on the Ann Romney fashion front, with many questioning whether or not outspoken Obama supporter Anna Wintour is keeping stylists and designers away, silently threatening their standing should they endeavor to promote their outfitting of the wife of a Republican presidential hopeful.
Anna vs. Ann. We’re looking forward to a showdown.
