Gasp Jeans To Shut Down Site Of Shameful Customer Service Incident

It’s true what they say: All horrifyingly awful retail experiences come to an end. Gasp Jeans, the Australian retailer that rewarded one of its employees for taunting a customer last week is shutting down the store where it all went down.

Intrepid Twitterer Ben Tyers tweeted a picture of the Australian store’s Chapel Street outpost in Melbourne, where the windows are now painted with the words “Closing Down Sale. Nothing Over $50″ on Tuesday. (For what it’s worth, the store is also have a 25 percent off sale on its website. Just an FYI.)

RELATED: The Rudest Retail Response To A Customer You’ve Ever Read

It’s a pretty quick turnaround considering that just last Thursday the store started getting attention for offering what we have no doubt is the worst customer service ever. After a shopper complained that one of the store’s sales staff made fun of her weight and chased her out of the store by calling her “a joke,” she received a response saying that he would be lauded for his efforts. Among other things, a store manager wrote in her response email that the salesman’s “only problem is that he is too good at what he does, and as I am sure you are aware, people whom are talented, generally do not tolerate having their time wasted, which is the reason you were provoked to leave the store.”

Ouch. The email, which you can read in full here, also claimed that celebs such as Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry have been Gasp customers in the past. We reached out to publicists for all three women last week and have yet to hear back.

But for whoever runs Gasp’s corporate office, we imagine the message was loud and clear. This is the kind of public relations blunder you can’t come back from — we’re sitting over 10,000 miles away from the store right now, and we can still feel the shockwaves from the incident. So if they made the decision to close down the store, even just temporarily, based on this embarrassing incident, we say good for Gasp, and good riddance to bad garbage.

Psshhh…Whatever. I’ll still never Ever shop at any of their chains because of this. Good luck bouncing back from this one, maybe next time you’ll screen your employees better and stop trying to be the hoity-toity holier than thou ‘chic couture’ imbeciles that world just saw you to be.

Looks like someone spent one too many nights at home alone, watching “The Devil Wears Prada” and eating ice cream straight out of the container.  I’m always amazed by how many people with service (yes, service!) jobs feel so far above their customers.  Let’s see how successful they are when their customers see how they’re thought of by Gasp!
