Georgia May Jagger on NYFW and Her Mum’s Vintage Sunglasses
How fitting for Georgia May Jagger to have paraded down Alexander Wang’s spring runway wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with a Parental Advisory label. After all, her father is Mick Jagger, and she’s inherited his trademark pout, supreme personal style, wicked sense of humor, and knack for being a little mischievous.
All of these idiosyncrasies were on display during Sunglass Hut’s New York Fashion Week fête in Times Square last week, where Jagger celebrated her role as face of the brand with bubbly, live music, and fellow Stones scion Theodora Richards.
The 21-year-old looking as if she were her supermodel mother, Jerry Hall, primed for a night out at Studio 54 in a ’70s-inspired silver Grecian gown with matching metallic eyeshadow. Naturally, we were in awe of her (and the fact that we could be in such close proximity to Stones DNA and remained composed).
We had the pleasure of chatting with the cheeky Brit on her New York Fashion Week debut, borrowing her mum’s sunnies, and what she does as soon as she touches down in New York City.
We loved your look on Alexander Wang’s runway. How’d it feel to be wearing such a statement piece?
Georgia May Jagger: I think that I had the best outfit [Laughs]. It was incredible. It was my first time walking in a show at New York Fashion Week. So that was really exciting that he chose me. He’s so sweet and so talented. I’m quite short, so I’m not really a show girl, so I do a couple good ones. I’ll be around London, Paris, and Milan.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you come to New York?
GMJ: I actually like to order Vietnemese food or something like that. [Laughs]. And order juices – I’ll order from Juice Press and Liqueteria. I’ll also walk around the East Village, that sort of thing.
We imagine that between your two parents, you had quite the vintage sunglasses collection to dive into growing up, no?
GMJ: Yes! I always used to borrow my mum’s. She always had really great ones. She had these one really great pair of red Ray Ban’s before they started doing all the colors. It must’ve been in the early ’90s or whenever they came out with the bright red ones. I used to borrow those from her a lot. And then she had these Theirry Mugler cat eyes with diamonds along the side. I loved those.
What’s your favorite shape for sunglasses?
GMJ: I’m quite into the round shape, like these *points to the round Ray Ban she’s holding*. I also really love aviators. When they came out with the foldable aviators I was like, ‘Wow, they’re perfect for tucking into your purse.’”
Your appearance on Wang’s runway was a sweet surprise. What can we expect for London, Milan, and Paris?
GMJ: It’s all so last minute, I don’t even know everything. I’ll be there. I can tell you that much.
