PHOTOS: Glamour‘s Women Of The Year Awards Were Inspiring
Last night’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards had Carnegie Hall bursting with so much girl power, it’s amazing the place didn’t explode. Last night marked the awards’ 20th birthday, and the star-studded event certainly did that milestone justice.
The presenters — Hilary Swank, Katie Couric, OPRAH — were just as impressive as the awardees, who you can read up on here. While Women of the Year Julia Roberts (who cracked jokes and flashed her multi-million dollar smile) and Fergie (whose tearful acceptance speech was truly touching) drew plenty of fanfare, it was the “real women” on the list that drew standing ovations and loud cheers. Why? Because women like Constance McMillen and Dr. Hawa Abdi are ridiculously amazing.
And in the name of womanly empowerment, it was awesome to see women supporting each other. Janet Jackson gave a beautiful introduction for Donatella Versace, explaining how her friend helped her cope with the death of her brother, drawing on her own experience with such a loss. Arianna Huffington presented close pal Queen Rania of Jordan her award, and Fergie thanked Glamour for having BFF Kate Hudson up on stage with her (“We don’t get to see each other that much because of touring, so tonight we’re going to act like little girls!”).
But perhaps final honoree Cher said it best: “No is just some bullshit word someone made up.” Girl power!
