Is Glenda Bailey Leaving Harper’s Bazaar?
Is Glenda Bailey leaving Harper’s Bazaar? If you believe the highly speculative piece in today’s WWD, then yes. But we’re not totally buying it.
The paper muses that Bazaar‘s new publisher Carol Smith “can’t be happy with the magazine’s current numbers and will want to turn the magazine around right off the bat.” For context, Smith came over to Hearst from Condé Nast after being fired from her post as Bon Appetit‘s publisher after just six months on the job.
We’re not really sure why WWD‘s Zeke Turner thinks Bailey could be on her way out, given his unnamed sources hint at nothing of the sort. One explains “Glenda and Carol, they seem to be speaking the same language”, while another says “Glenda rumors come all the time, it’s just like the boy who cries wolf.”
While Bazaar may be underperforming in terms of ad pages and circulation, we can’t imagine the mag will get a complete overhaul. Not to mention Bailey is well-liked by her staff, well-regarded by the industry, and all that well-jazz. We do, however, think Smith will certainly implement other changes to get numbers up.
