New Google Technology Will Be Released At The DVF Show Today
We’re going to be seeing some futuristic fashions today at the Diane Von Furstenberg show. And we don’t just mean sartorially — the designer is teaming up with Google to unveil a newly-developed technology amid her spring 2013 collection.
The intrepid reporters at WWD say they’ve learned that “some Google-developed technology will be introduced at the runway show”. Exciting! And what an interesting choice for Google to unveil something new at a runway show, of all places. There has been speculation that the highly-anticipated Google Glasses are the product to be revealed, but that is, as yet, no more than a unsubstantiated rumor. An update on DVF’s Google+ page (side note: is this another attempt to make Google+ relevant?) says the following:
Are you ready to see the DVF runway show from an entirely new perspective? Tune in at 4pm. #DVFthroughGlass
That’s not much to go on, other than that the hashtag gives some substance to the whispers that the Google Glasses will be making an appearance. Also, WWD spotted Google co-founder Sergey Brin at DVF’s pre-show fittings yesterday. Brin and his wife, Anne Wojcicki, will be attending the show, and von Furstenberg is dressing Wojcicki for the event. This is what Brin had to say about all the fashunz:
“I probably wouldn’t call myself a fashion guy but I am getting there. It’s pretty impressive. It’s quite the operation if you look at the number of styles and the models. It’s an amazing thing to watch.”
We probably wouldn’t call him a “fashion guy” either, because he reportedly showed up to that meeting wearing khaki shorts and Crocs. But no matter. Whatever’s going down at the DVF show at 4pm today (which we will be livestreaming!), it’s going to be big.
