GQ Bumps Ryan Reynolds, Gives LeBron Sept. Cover
You didn’t think September issue cover controversy was limited to women’s magazines, did you?
Word has it that GQ will feature new Floridian LeBron James on the front of its September book, but that the kerfuffle over James’s desicion to “take his talents to South Beach” and play for the Miami heat bumped abdominally gifted actor Ryan Reynolds off the cover. A Reynolds cover would have helped him promote his new movie Buried, which will debut in October.
Of course, sources inside the magazine say the shoot was actually in the works weeks in advance of James’s overhyped decision was announced on ESPN. And, of course, GQ’s official comment is that it does not discuss future issues.
For our part, we don’t think LeBron’s “story” needs any more coverage, and he doesn’t really need another GQ cover, with all the attention he’s getting these days. We’ll leave all that to our friends at SportsGrid. Reynolds, on the other hand, has only ever been on the cover of German GQ — and it’s a fine publication, but we’re sure he could have done with a dose of some stateside mag love.
