Madonna Shares Cover Duties For December’s Harper’s Bazaar
Madonna isn’t Harper’s Bazaar only December cover girl. The pop superstar-turned-director appears alongside Andrea Riseborough, the star of her new film W.E., on the front of the glossy.
The Tom Munro-shot newsstand cover has a close-up shot of the two women clad in black (and sporting flawless makeup jobs), while the subscriber cover is more narrative, with a camera-wielding Madonna in front of a lounging Riseborough. Madonna also spoke with Naomi Wolf for the issue, discussing — among many things — her conservative childhood:
“The fact that I didn’t have a mother helped me in some respect, and that I didn’t have a female role model. I was always very aware of sexual politics, growing up in a Catholic-Italian family in the Midwest, seeing that my brothers could do what they wanted but the girls were always told that they needed to dress a certain way, act a certain way. We were told to wear our skirts to our knees, turtlenecks, cover ourselves and not wear makeup, and not do anything that would draw attention.”
