Elizabeth Hurley: Getting Older Requires A Lot More Grooming!
When you’re celebrating women who are fabulous at every age, Elizabeth Hurley is indeed a woman who comes to mind. That’s why it’s only appropriate that the stunning 45-year-old helped host last night’s Harper’s Bazaar event feting the winners of its “Fabulous at Every Age” contest.
We chatted with the Estée Lauder spokesmodel about beauty, and she explained that “as we get older, we have to groom more…I’ve definitely found that as I’ve grown older, that I can get away with less sloppiness.” We can’t imagine Hurley ever looking sloppy, but we get what she’s saying. And her thoughts on aging were refreshing and exactly in line with the theme of the event:
“I actually quite like it when I meet women who are still doing things at their age, whatever it is…There’s definitely a time for everything, and it’s very nice when you see people embracing what they can do within the confines that we all have depending on what’s going on in our personal, business, and domestic lives. It’s really fun to see women reach their potential in each of their decades.”
The five finalists from the contest were on hand, as was a very special guest — 102-year-old Margaret Bonner, who got the night’s biggest applause (and wore the night’s most fashionable pair of glasses). Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey‘s appreciation for women of all ages is evidenced by her covers, but there’s still one girl she’s waiting for: ”Kate Middleton would be my dream cover.” Remember those rumors about Bailey snagging Kate?
Well, we would not be surprised if Bazaar won the royal cover race. Kate is, after all, Bailey’s “fabulous at every age” icon: ”I’ve got many, but the one person who I think looks amazing now and will continue to look amazing at every period of her life has got to be Kate Middleton. She’s just got that look, which you know at every single age she’s going to look incredible.”
Bailey also shares our royal wedding obsession, but isn’t so much concerned with who is designing Kate’s dress as much as what the dress itself will look like:
“It’s not so much a particular designer, more for me I hope she wears something which isn’t too overwhelming, but that has some fit because she has such a beautiful body…I love wedding dresses which are a little more covered. I think it’s not the time to look like you’re going down to the disco. I’m hoping that it has that sense of elegance and sophistication, but at the same time I hope it’s full-on fashion with a great wow factor.”
Our thoughts exactly! We want lace sleeves! Coco Rocha was a little less enthused about the royal nuptials, but as her sister-in-law (and date for the night) chided, “She just had an amazing wedding, I don’t how it’s going to beat it.” Well, we can’t argue with that — that video was gorgeous. Rocha did have strong thoughts about her timeless icon though: ”Our legendary Elizabeth Taylor. I was obsessed with her. Until the end she was still looking fabulous in her gowns and her jewelry. I have never been starstruck by anyone, but if I ever met her I would have just been overwhelmed.”
And here are Hurley, Bailey, and the five contest finalists:
