Hedi Slimane Tweets An Outrageous Open Letter To Cathy Horyn
In response to Cathy Horyn‘s less-than-flattering review of his first collection for Saint Laurent after she did not receive an invitation to the show, Hedi Slimane has dispatched a rambling, somewhat-accusatory (but mostly just confusing) open letter via his ALLCAPSALLTHETIME Twitter page. The letter calls Horyn a “schoolyard bully” and asserts that “her agenda is seriously thick and perfectly predictable.” It concludes with the promise that “as far as I’m concerned, she will never get a seat at Saint Laurent, but might get 2 for 1 at Dior. She should rejoice.” And then signs off with a plug for the new YSL website. Not exactly the level of class and professionalism one might expect from the head designer at one of the world’s most revered fashion houses. In fact, not even close.
The statement comes just a few short weeks after Oscar de la Renta published an open letter in WWD rebuking Horyn’s choice to describe him as a “hot dog,” though it’s pretty much safe to say the stalwart team behind de la Renta’s public relations would never let something like this hit the presses. However, as a Business of Fashion piece today articulated, the PR team at YSL may already be awash with problems of their own.
Is it time for PPR chief and YSL owner Francois-Henri Pinault to reign Slimane in?
