Hervé Léger: ‘Models Today Are Too Skinny, Too Sad’

Designer Hervé Léger says models today are too skinny. In an interview, the man behind the ever present bandage dress told The Daily Front Row that the generic slate of models he sees in every fashion show is so uninspiring that he chooses to only show his Herve L. Leroux collection in presentation format at his showroom.

“…If I had to go back to catwalk presentations I would be in a panic because today people are so out of touch with the reality of everyday life. Already the models I find are too skinny, too sad. And I knew the age of the super top models, Linda Evangelista and Cindy Crawford, who were always lively and smiling. Today you go between several défilés and you will see the exact same type of girl–it just doesn’t inspire me.”

Max Azria, the man who now owns and designs the Hervé Léger brand, clearly has no such qualms. That said, we can’t help but point out that Léger could, if he wanted to, influence some change in the industry by casting a more diverse group models in a public show.

    This strikes me as hypocritical. If Herve Leger really thought so, he would start designing dresses that are larger than an average woman’s size 6. He DOESN”T.

    I personally can’t understand why anyone would want to look at a size 00 that is just beyond a joke. I work in the fashion industry in Colombia – Moda Colombiana – and I can assure you if models were that skinny

    Yes. Too thin to make most women feel good about themselves. I look like that and I think they’re normal looking. So sick of out of shape women with no discipline and self control bitching and whining about ‘skinny’ women. Hint: women only bitch out of jealousy.

    Oh shut the eff up about how skinny models are and how skinny I am and blah blah blah. Has one seen these models??? They are the absolute s***. Stunning, levels of gorgeous most fat American women will never achieve. Do not hate women b/c they are tall, thin and beautiful. It’s just as ignortant as hating people b/c they’re not. Too skinny? Too sad? The average woman or even the average celebrity doesn’t want to be caught standing next to one of those tall, thin gorgeous Euro models. They make Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez and all the other short, fat American women look like dog shit. I wouldn’t mop the floor w/ those uglies.They’re their only so the mediocre have someone to look up to. Average women can’t relate to them b/c they’re too beautiful – but they can relate to Beyonce and the like b/c they’re just as fugly. Leave the ‘skinny’ models alone and go back to worshipping people who make you feel better about yourselves. America is a fat slovenly country filled w/ lazy fat women, that’s why the fatty celebrities reign supreme. In Europe, fatties like Beyonce would be laughed at. Go take a walk, and stop bitching about skinny people. IT DOESN’T BURN CALORIES.
