Did You Think Hilary Alexander Was Actually Going To Retire?
Hilary Alexander, the tireless former fashion director of The Daily Telegraph, is settling into life after work by, well, continuing to work. In addition to writing her memoirs — which are supposed to be bound and on shelves by next summer — Alexander is also giving some thought to working on the big screen.
In an interview with Vogue UK, Alexander said that while she’s got a lot she wants to get on paper (we can only hope it will include some juicy tidbits about working with literally everyone in the fashion industry), she could also easily pop up on television or in film. She also doesn’t think she’ll ever really retire — not in the sense that she would sit in her living room drinking tea and not actively working for the rest of her life, anyway:
“I’m not ruling out the possibility of a documentary or a TV or film deal either, but for now I’m going to start writing my book next month,” she revealed. “I don’t think that I will ever actually retire from the industry. I just love the clothes and jewellery too much – the colours, the fabrics, the shapes. I would love to study architecture, but even that’s fashion, because it’s the costumes, the jewellery, the history of the way people dressed and lived.”
And we do, too! Which is exactly why we’re glad to hear that, at least for now, Alexander isn’t going anywhere. We only wonder how it will sell compared to Anna Wintour’s biography.
