PHOTOS: Fun Red Carpet Fashion At The Hollywood Film Awards Gala

We’re not sure who votes in the Hollywood Film Awards Gala, but it sure made for a delightful red carpet. Elle Fanning debuted a giant braid, Carey Mulligan modeled the definition of an LBD, Emma Stone embraced the roaring ’20s, Amber Heard finally did Roksanda Ilincic some justice (remember poor Dianna Agron’s blue abomination at the Emmys?), Anne Hathaway sparkled in Erdem, and Michelle Williams looked a tad overdressed in full-length Nina Ricci.

Our vote for best dressed goes to Mulligan and her perfectly modern little black dress. We’d give Stone a little more credit, especially for the bright green jewels, but all we can see are her giant platform sandals, and frankly, we’re a little disappointed in Fanning’s look. The braid feels proportionately large, though the Valentino is obviously stunning. And while we’re not one to be ageist, it does feel just the slightest bit old for her.

Hathaway’s Erdem is pitch-perfect but we’re too jealous of her red carpet cuddlefest with Joseph Gordon Levitt to give her any credit. Sad, but oh so very true.

What do you think?

Before I looked at the pictures, when you said that Carey Mulligan in her LBD was best dressed I thought yeah right, boring.  And then I looked at the pictures and I have to say Mulligan’s look takes the LBD to a whole new level; definitely best dressed.  Honorable mentions to Emma Stone; I love the 20′s look and Amber Heard; such a unique dress.  I was disappointed in Elle Fanning because she usually does so much better with her choices and it’s not the braid so much as the boring dress.  Michelle Williams was also a dissappointment, I did not like her dress.

Thankfully my expectations are so low for Hathaway that this concoction of what appears to me a Japanese robe that has been tailored fails to disappoint me.  Props to Amber Heard and Mulligan for amazing make-up, Fanning should learn from them–not to be picking on someone younger, but she is always so red and not the cool Emma Stone red hair way. And to go out on a limb here, but I like Michelle Williams dress, I thought the sheer made it less formal.

Oh, and Jordan Levitt is a dream.
