How Much Does Carrie Bradshaw’s Sex And The City Apartment Cost?
How exactly did lowly writer Carrie Bradshaw afford her fabulous life? It’s a question that’s been examined time and again, but let’s give it another shot. It’s Carrie Bradshaw math: real estate edition.
Real estate mogul (and reality TV star) Barbara Corcoran assessed a whole bunch of small-screen digs for Vanity Fair, but it’s the Sex and the City abode that has us most interested. As you’ll recall, Bradshaw lived in a one-bedroom/one-bathroom rent-controlled brownstone apartment at 245 E. 73rd St. on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. However, the exterior of the building is actually 66 Perry St. in the West Village.
The fictional UES apartment would cost around $2,800 a month to rent, which Bradshaw’s paltry salary certainly could not have covered. More are-you-kidding-worthy is the fact that 66 Perry St. is currently on the market for $9,650,000. We suppose this is where we’re supposed to make some sort of “but Mr. Big could buy it” reference.
Of course, Corcoran notes that Bradshaw would never live uptown: “All those gals look at the Upper East Side as bad as moving to Connecticut.”
